Avett Brothers tickets
Tickets for The Avett Brothers' Feb. 16 concert at the Municipal Auditorium go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday. They are $34.50 and $39.50.
A pre-sale runs through 10 p.m. Thursday, with the password "SHINE." This is just a chance to purchase tickets early, not a discount offer.

Student improv comedy
Batteries Not Included, the student improv troupe at George Washington High School, will give its first public performance of the year at 7 p.m. Friday with "Holiday of Doom: The Improvening!" in the auditorium of the school, 1522 Tennis Club Road.
Admission is on a pay-what-you-can basis. Nonperishable food items for a local food drive also are accepted as an admission fee. Call 304-348-7729.
Kanawha Valley Community Band
The Kanawha Valley Community Band's winter concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Friday at South Charleston's LaBelle Theater, 311 D St. The program features sacred, secular, march and holiday selections, including "Carol of the Night," "The Festival of Hanukkah," "The Wonder of Christmas" and "A Canadian Brass Christmas Suite."

Opera at the movies
The Metropolitan Opera's performance of Verdi's "Aida" will screen live at 12:55 p.m. Saturday at Regal Nitro and Cinemark Huntington Mall. The production runs four hours.
