CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- This weekend, the Clay Center will launch its new Science Fiction Film Series in the ElectricSky Theater with screenings of Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
"Metropolis" is the story of a futuristic, dystopian city that's sharply divided between the wealthy industrialists and the underground-dwelling workers and what happens when the son of the city's mastermind falls for a working class prophet predicting the coming of a savior who will unite the two factions. The silent classic was groundbreaking in its time; it was the first full-length science fiction movie, and its elaborate props and special effects helped shape cinema.
Tickets are $6. Call 304-561-3570 or visit www.theclaycenter.org.
