Westminster Choir
The Westminster Choir from Westminster Choir College in Princeton, N.J., perform at Kanawha United Presbyterian Church, 1009 Virginia St. E., at 7 p.m. Saturday. The 90-minute concert, "Light of a Clear Blue Morning: Sound and Memory," focuses on "specific periods of time and memories of how music colors people's lives," according to choir performance director Jim Moore.

Belly dance showcase
Samadhi Tribal Fusion Belly Dance Troupe will host a belly dance performance from 10:30 to 11:30 p.m. Saturday at Bailey's (formerly The Pour House), 4030 Washington St. W. In addition to the Samadhi troupe and its students, individual performers from Charleston, Huntington, Beckley, Hurricane, Parkersburg, Beckley and Leon will perform, as will dancers from Knoxville, Tenn., and Marietta, Ohio.

'Color Purple' auditions
The Charleston Light Opera Guild will hold auditions for "The Color Purple" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Wednesday and Jan. 19 at its theater, 411 Tennessee Ave. The show will be performed the first three weekends in May at the Civic Center Little Theater.
Tuesday's auditions are for singing; prepare a musical selection and bring sheet music for the accompanist. Wednesday's are for reading and acting; scripts will be provided for cold readings. The Jan. 19 auditions are dancing; attendees should dress to dance and come barefoot or in ballet or jazz shoes.
Five major female roles, ranging in age from late teens to 50s, are available as are three male roles, ages 20s to 80. Supporting and ensemble roles are available for 15 adults and seven children. Ensemble singers and dancers also are needed.

Little India art contest
Little India restaurant, housed in a former fire station on the East End, is currently seeking entries of artwork that will be used to cover the opening surrounding the building's old fireman's pole. Artists may submit up to three designs for the 48-inch cover by 5 p.m. Feb. 24. The winner will receive $250 to execute the design, which must be completed by mid-April.

Allied Artists juried exhibition
Allied Artists of West Virginia is accepting entries through March 1 for its 68th Biennial Exhibit for visual arts and fine crafts. West Virginia artists ages 18 and up may submit up to two works, which must have been produced since January 2010 and cannot have been shown in a previous Allied Artists or West Virginia juried exhibit.
Approximately $5,000 will be awarded to works chosen by jurors Marilyn Hughey Phyllis of Wheeling and Don Adleta from Ohio University. Entry fee is $20 for AAWV members and $30 for non-members. Drum workshop
Local musician and music teacher Mark Davis will host a rhythm workshop from 4 to 5:15 p.m. Sunday at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 520 Kanawha Blvd. W. His "Rhythm Toolbox" will teach explore percussion instruments and their sound potential as well as teach key rhythms that can be added to a variety of musical settings and styles.
Participants should bring a hand drum if they have one. Some instruments will be available. Admission is $15.
The workshop is followed by UUC's monthly drum circle, which is free and open to everyone. Some percussion is available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own. Call Chris Higgins at 304-881-7037.
