CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Episode 153 of "Radio Free Charleston" is online now at The PopCult Blog at thegazz.com.

Titled "Dr. Pepper Shirt," it's comprised entirely of rehearsal footage from two of this weekend's live events: the 2nd annual Alumni All-Star Jam at West Virginia State University and the Contemporary Youth Arts Company production of "Jesus Christ Superstar."

The jam is at 7:30 p.m. Friday in WVSU's Davis Fine Arts Theater, and "Superstar" opens Thursday at the Capitol Center Theater.

The first two songs are from the jam and are early run-throughs -- just the first or second time that the musicians have tackled the songs together.

The band is Jonathan Wesley of Inspiration on drums, Tim Courts of the Bob Thompson Unit on piano, Mike "Nemo" Pleasant on bass guitar, Dick Stockton on trumpet and Bill Hambleton on trombone.

The guys back Melanie Larch on Gershwin's "Summertime" and Lady D on Bill Withers' "Just The Two of Us."

Wrapping up the show is a sneak peek of CYAC's "Jesus Christ Superstar." It's an early performance of the song "Hosanna," which features most of the cast. It has no vocal amplification, but it gives a small taste of what director Dan Kehde, musical director Mark Scarpelli and choreographer Robert Royce have in store for audiences.
