CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The final two performances for the Metropolitan Opera in high definition are "Manon" on April 25 and "La traviata" on May 2. Both begin at 6:30 p.m. at Great Escape in Nitro and Cinemark in the Huntington Mall at Barboursville.

The operas can be listened to earlier on West Virginia Public Radio. "Manon," by Massenet, will be broadcast from noon to 4:05 p.m. Saturday, and Verdi's "La traviata" will air from 12:55 to 4 p.m. April 14.

The New York City performances are recorded live and later transmitted to theaters across the U.S. and in 54 countries. "The Met Opera in HD" live and encore presentations allow audiences to see close-ups of the performers, interviews during the intermission and set changes -- experiences the Lincoln Center audiences don't have.

Tickets are $22 and $20 for adults, $20 and $16 for seniors, and $15 and $16 for children. Free passes for broadcasts at both theaters are available by contacting LaRee Naviaux at 304-344-9091.
