CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Music fans can step up and help out some needy families and also hear a couple of lively bills in two benefits this weekend in Charleston.

The Empty Glass, 410 Elizabeth St., hosts a benefit Thursday for families of victims of the devastating recent Arlington Avenue fire. The benefit runs from 5 p.m. to 2 a.m. and the tentative schedule includes Mother Blues, King Fish Five, Andrea Anderson of Pepper Fandango, Greg McGowan of Time & Distance, The Carpenter Ants and Holy Smoke.

A silent auction will be held from 5 to 10 p.m., including gift certificates from local restaurants and businesses and packages from Appalachian Power Park. There is a $5 donation at the door. Call 304-345-3914 or visit www.emptyglass.com.

"Metal Relief," a metal music benefit for victims of recent flooding in West Virginia, starts at 9 p.m. Friday at the Sound Factory, 812 Kanawha Blvd. E. It features (in order of appearance) Elohim, Black Market Harvest, Tomorrow Burns, Linework and The Number Six.
