CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Blue Man Group, "Shrek" and "Fiddler on the Roof" highlight the upcoming 2012-2013 Broadway in Charleston series at the Clay Center. All shows start at 7:30 p.m. except where noted.
The series opens Oct. 4 with The Blue Man Group, a performance group that mixes music, dance and comedy with technology to create an unusual theater experience.
On Dec. 9 at 7:30 p.m. "Cirque Dreams Holidaze" comes to the Clay Center with an international cast of more than 30 multi-talented and brilliantly costumed artists performing feats of disbelief with a holiday theme.
On Dec. 20, it's "Shrek the Musical," which brings the animated film series about the not-so-jolly green ogre in the land of Far, Far Away to life.
The Tony Award winning classic "Fiddler on the Roof" comes to the Clay Center on April 14. The show, which was turned into an Academy Award-winning film in 1971, has also seen numerous Broadway revivals.
On April 23, Beatlemania invades Charleston with "Rain," a multidimensional Beatle experience with music, historical footage and television commercials from the 1960s. "Rain" covers the Fab Four from the earliest beginnings through the psychedelic late 1960s and their long-haired hippie, hard-rocking rooftop days.
The Broadway in Charleston's season closes on May 7 with "Rock of Ages," a musical about a small-town girl meeting a big city rocker in LA's most famous rock club. The show includes music from some of the best-known bands of the 1980s including Journey, Night Ranger, Pat Benatar and more. (It also contains adult material and subject matter.)
Packages are available to Broadway in Charleston subscribers with renewing patrons getting first preference. Current subscribers may renew until May 25.
