CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Bob Thompson Unit is the only act performing at Friday's Live on the Levee, but it's not alone. The jazz quartet will be joined by soul singer Nicci Canada when the free show kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at Haddad Riverfront Park.

Canada, of Charlotte, N.C., is a Charleston native who grew up singing in the Greater Emmanuel Apostolic Faith Church on the West Side. In August 2011, she released her first CD, "Twenty Twelve," which was on Starpoint Radio's U.K. Soul Chart for eight weeks straight.
