The Marshall Artists Series presents "An Evening with John Legend" at 8 p.m. Thursday at Huntington's Keith Albee Theater. 'Glenn Beck Unelectable 2012' screening

Glenn Beck's comedy stage show, "TheBlaze Presents Glenn Beck Unelectable 2012," screens live at 8 p.m. Thursday at Cinemark Huntington Mall. In it, Beck participates in a mock debate with performers on his network's "B.S. of A." The event ends with an address by Beck.

Blues competition seeks bands

Friday is the deadline for blues acts to submit applications for the West Virginia Blues Society's sixth annual Blues Competition, held Oct. 13. The contest is open to bands, solo/duo acts and youth performers. Winners receive cash prizes and a sponsorship to the 2013 International Blues Challenge in Memphis.

Free film

The Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 520 Kanawha Blvd. W., will screen the 2011 film "Hugo" (PG) for free at 7:30 p.m. Friday. Martin Scorsese's Oscar-winning film, based on the novel "The Invention of Hugo Cabret," is the story of a young orphan in 1930s Paris, who lives in the walls of a train station.

Blending that fiction with fact, one of the characters in the family drama is real-life filmmaking and special effects pioneer Georges Melies. Following the movie, a restored and colorized version of Melies' 1902 film "A Trip to the Moon" will be shown.

Allied Artists exhibit

An opening reception will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Friday at Beckley's Cynthia Bickey Gallery for an exhibit by 18 Allied Artists of West Virginia members. On display through Oct. 20, the exhibit features acrylic, watercolor, sculpture, black/white and color photography, metallic print photography and other media.
