Derick Kirk Foundation concert

The Derick Kirk Foundation will hold a fundraising concert Thursday at Capitol Roasters, 160 Summers St. Performers are Sean Sydor, 6 p.m.; Blues du Jour, 7 p.m.; C2J2, 8 p.m.; the Hybrid Soul Project, 9 p.m. and Rubber Soul, 10 p.m.

Third Eye Cabaret

The new Third Eye Cabaret kicks off Thursday at The Cellar, 8 Capitol St. The free weekly event, running from 7 to 10 p.m., features live music, spoken word, original video and more. Gospel concert

Byron Cage will give a free concert at 7 p.m. Friday at the Charleston Civic Center. The Grammy-nominated gospel singer released his first album in 1995. His most recent, "Memoirs of a Worshipper," came out in June.

Opera at the movies

The Metropolitan Opera's performance of Verdi's "Othello" screens live at Cinemark Huntington Mall and Great Escape Nitro at 12:55 p.m. Saturday. Shakespeare's tale of good vs. evil is played out in the approximately three-and-a-half hour production conducted by Semyon Bychkov. Renee Fleming stars as Desdemona, Johan Botha as Otello and Falk Struckmann as Iago.

'A Christmas Story' auditions

Kanawha Players will hold more auditions for males for its production of "A Christmas Story," to be staged Nov 29-Dec. 2. Auditions are 2 p.m. Saturday at the KP Theater, 309 Beauregard St.
