CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The latest episode of "Radio Free Charleston" is online now at blogs.wvgazette.com/popcult. This week's episode features music from area bands Qiet and Farnsworth, plus a special performance from the Dan Khede/Mark Scarpelli rock opera, "MARY."
Qiet, an eclectic musical outfit based out of Huntington, performs "Dionysian Dream" from a recent show at the Empty Glass. Fransworth, who performs with The Phantom Six and Tofujitsu at The Boulevard Tavern Friday, wraps up the episode with a performance recorded at Budget Tapes and Records this summer.
Rowan Maher, who plays the title role in "MARY" in the evening cast, performs "Child, My Child," recorded at composer Mark Scarpelli's home. This year, the Contemporary Youth Arts Company is trying something new with two sets of principal cast members trading off during the show's run.
The episode also features "Blue Dome," yet another DEVO energy dome cartoon by Frank Panucci. Host segments were shot on the river side of the State Capitol grounds.
