Review: 'Mamma Mia!' dazzles Clay audience

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- My college career was set to a soundtrack of ABBA's greatest hits. The music of "Mamma Mia!" is an intrinsic part of my soul, and the cast of Broadway in Charleston's production brought it all back to life. A nearly sold-out crowd and a catalogue of well-loved favorites made this the perfect storm of musicals.

With fantastic choreography and perfect vocals, each song could only be described as even more fabulous than the last.

Sophia, played by Chloe Tucker, was both stunningly beautiful and vocally gifted. I especially enjoyed her emotional rendition of "Thank You for the Music," as she interacted with Harry, Sam and Bill (Paul Deboy, Christian Whelan and John-Michael Zuerlein) who played her three potential fathers.

Kaye Tuckerman (Donna Sheridan) was a show-stopping force -- a stick of musical dynamite wrapped in a petite package. She powered through well-known favorites with breathtaking sound and stamina.

The show's namesake "Mamma Mia!" caused the audience to go wild. Tuckerman and her two on-stage best friends Tanya (Alison Ewing) and Rosie (Mary Callanan) gave a stunning rendition of  "Chiquitita."

The ensemble vocals and choreography was remarkable. The costumes and set were lovely without being overpowering. Songs like "S.O.S" and "Does Your Mother Know" were a riot.
