'The Belle of Amherst'
Contemporary Youth Arts Company closes its production of the one-woman play "The Belle of Amherst" with performances at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the Capitol Center Theater, 123 Summers St.
Star Mandy Harper worked for a year on the production, wherein she brings to life Emily Dickinson and 14 other characters in the poet's life.

Leon Sullivan documentary
"A Principled Man: Rev. Leon Sullivan" will screen for free at 7 p.m. Friday at the Culture Center Theater.
The 60-minute documentary produced by Charleston's MotionMasters studio is a look at the life and legacy of the Charleston native who mentored Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., helped free Nelson Mandela, spent years fighting apartheid in South Africa and worked tirelessly for equal pay for equal work and integration of the races in all eating, comfort and work facilities.
Executive producer Diana Sole Walko, who worked closely with Sullivan while making the film, will lead a question and answer session after the screening. Call 304-558-0220.
'Breaking Dawn' release party
The Target store at The Shops at Trace Fork will hold a late-night event Friday to celebrate the DVD release of "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn -- Part 1."
Beginning at 11 p.m., fans can see an exclusive, world-premiere scene from the first half of the final film.
At midnight, sales begin for the store's Limited-Collector's Edition DVD, which includes an authentic prop flower from the film's wedding scene. Visit www.target.com/twilight.

The Metropolitan Opera's live performance of "Götterdämmerung," the final of Wagner's "The Ring" operas, screens live at noon Saturday at Cinemark Huntington Mall and Great Escape Nitro.

West Virginia Writers president and WVSU instructor Cat Pleska will moderate the free arts panel "Vietnam: The Cultural Scene" at 2 p.m. Saturday in the John V. Ray Room of the Charleston Public Library, 123 Capitol St.
Featuring musician Larry Groce, filmmaker Steve Gilliland and artist Dr. Reidun Ovrebo, the panel is sponsored by the Charleston Stage Company in advance of its production of the Vietnam War drama, "A Piece of My Heart," which opens Feb. 23.

FOOTMAD concert
Folk duo Magpie performs in a FOOTMAD concert at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Culture Center Theater.
Comprised of Greg Artzner and Terry Leonino, Magpie harmonizes on everything from blues, jazz, country, swing and world-music tunes to hard-hitting topical songs and songs about the ongoing struggles for civil rights, freedom, justice and peace.
Leonino also plays the mandolin, rhythm guitar, harmonica and fretted dulcimer while Artzner plays fingerstyle guitar.

Underground Railroad play
The Bright Star Touring Theatre will present "Heroes of the Underground Railroad" at 2:30 p.m. Monday at the Charleston Public Library, 123 Capitol St.
Harriet Tubman, Levi Coffin, Henry "Box" Brown, John Parker and more will come alive in an empowering look at the figures behind the Underground Railroad.

History Alive!
Performer Joseph Bundy will portray Osborne Perry Anderson in free History Alive! programs at several Kanawha County Public Library branches.
Anderson was one of five black members of John Brown's raiders at Harpers Ferry in 1859 and the only one to escape and remain free. In 1861 he published the only eyewitness account of the raid and its preparations.
