Alban Center concerts

Christian music concert
Hip-hop singer, rapper and 98.7 The Beat's Sunday morning DJ Steven Thomas (aka Steve da Overcomer or Steve-O) headlines a CD-release show at 7 p.m. Friday at the All Nations Revival Center, 325 Academy Dr., Dunbar. Pumpkin Park concert
Stacy Grubb and The Clay Hess Band will perform at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Pumpkin Park Music Hall in Milton. The bluegrass, country and Americana singer-songwriter grew up in McDowell County and is a member of the Wheeling Jamboree. Writers' Toolkit, produced by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and the West Virginia Library Commission, runs Friday and Saturday at the Culture Center. The free program begins at 7 p.m. Friday with children's author Sarah Sullivan's keynote address, "Bright Streets and Dark Paths: The Often Painful, Sometimes Glorious Journey from Rough Draft to Polished Manuscript." A reception follows.
On Saturday, a creative-writing workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. It features two sessions: 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3 p.m. Participants should bring writing tablets and utensils. They also may bring a bag lunch.
Morning workshop options include: "Craft and Creativity in Picture Books," with Sullivan; "Screenwriting for Beginners," with Danny Boyd; "Short Takes: Writing from Life," with Karin Fuller; and "The Seven Deadly Sins," with Sandy Tritt. River City Blues Festival
The Mid-Ohio Valley Blues, Jazz & Folk Music Society presents its annual River City Blues Festival on Friday and Saturday at the Lafayette Hotel in Marietta.
Friday night starts at 8 p.m. and includes headliner the Lionel Young Blues Band, winner of the 2011 International Blues Challenge, at 9:45 p.m. On Saturday, music starts at 12:15 p.m. and then breaks around 5:30 p.m., before picking back up at 8 p.m. The headliner, Southern Hospitality (featuring JP Soars, Damon Fowler and Victor Wainwright), takes the stage at 10 p.m.
