'Animal Farm' auditions

The Charleston Stage Company will hold auditions for its production of George Orwell's "Animal Farm" from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Aug. 9-10 at the Capitol Center Theater, 123 Summers St. The performance will incorporate music, masks, puppetry and miming.

Roles are available for a young child and a minimum of 10 men and three women, as well as ensemble performers, all ages 17 and up. Actors should prepare a song.

Blenko Glass festival

Blenko's annual Festival of Glass is Friday and Saturday in Milton. Activities include glass-blowing demonstrations, signing events with the Blenko family and guided tours (9 and 10:30 a.m., 12:30 and 2 p.m. daily). Craft classes are offered for mosaic nightlights, glass flowers, paperweights, candy dishes and more.

Attendees will receive a free commemorative medallion, while supplies last. On Saturday, limited-edition pieces, including a mini water bottle and swirl apple, will go on sale at 8 a.m., limited to one piece per style per person.

Fayetteville artist reception

A free reception for Rob Cleland, the artist behind the Fayetteville Arts Coalition's first mural, begins at 6 p.m. Friday at 103 Keller Ave. (above the Secret Sandwich Society). Cleland will be drawing caricatures, and Brittany Rhodes will do face painting.

Other artists present will be Paul Corbit Brown, Ginger Danz, Stephanie Diaz, Tara Fowler, Meredith Gregg, Ron Hall, Tracy Martin, Sara Miller, Rick Rio, Tandi Stephens, Mike Turner, Shea Wells and Julie Wingard.

'The Voice' auditions

On Saturday, The Adelphia Music Hall in Marietta, Ohio, will record auditions to submit to the producers of NBC's "The Voice." The number of entrants is capped at 70, and advance registration is required. Auditions begin at 11 a.m.; participants will be notified then of approximately when they will perform.

All entries will be submitted; however, one participant will be chosen as the official "Voice Video Submission" and given a front-of-the-line pass to the open call in Los Angeles on Aug. 11-12. He or she must pay travel expenses to the call.

Arts social

The Arts Council of Kanawha County is holding an arts social from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday at Valley Park, shelter No. 2, in Hurricane. Hot dogs and drinks will be provided; attendees should bring a covered dish, snack or beverage.

Valley Park has mini golf, tennis, volleyball, hiking and fishing. Admission to Waves of Fun is half price, beginning at 4 p.m.
