CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Charleston Ballet will complete its 57th season next weekend with a "Partners and Pairs" program featuring a square dance ballet to some of the late Sen. Robert C. Byrd's favorite fiddle tunes.
The program will be held at the Charleston Civic Center Theater on March 22 and March 23, beginning at 7:30 p.m. both nights.
David A. Corbin, author of the recently published book, "The Last Great Senator: Robert C. Byrd's Encounters with Eleven U.S. Presidents," will sign copies of his book at the performances.
David A. Corbin was a Senate staffer for 26 years, including six years for Byrd and 10 years for former Senate majority leaders George Mitchell, D-Maine, and Tom Daschle, D-S.D.
Corbin was a speechwriter for Byrd during the last decade of Byrd's career.
Corbin also published "The West Virginia Mine Wars" in 1990 and "Life, Work and Rebellion in the Coal Fields: The Southern West Virginia Miners: 1880-1920" in 1981.
Corbin earned bachelor and master's degrees from Marshall University and a PhD. in history from the University of Maryland.
Tickets to the Civic Center performances may be purchased in advance for $20 for adults and $15 for students and seniors. Tickets at the door will be an additional $5.
