CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- While there's a lot of good stuff on cable in the summer (see below for a few of them), the basic networks are largely full of reality shows and reruns. If that disappoints you, as it does me, cheer yourself up with thoughts of the new goodies that are coming in the fall.
In the next few weeks, I'll give you a rundown of everything the networks will be throwing our way in about four months. I'll go alphabetically, so ABC is first up. Next season, the Alphabet Network will premiere four new sitcoms and six dramas. They are:
"666 Park Avenue": Supernatural drama. 10 p.m. Sundays.
Based on a book series, it stars Dave Annable ("Brothers & Sisters") and Rachael Taylor ("Transformers") as a Midwestern couple who move to New York to manage an apartment building where the inhabitants have struck Faustian bargains with the building's owner (Terry O'Quinn, "Lost") to achieve their greatest desires. Vanessa Williams ("Ugly Betty") plays O'Quinn's wife.
"The Family Tools": Family sitcom based on a British series. 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting midseason.
A man (Kyle Bornheimer, "Perfect Couples") must take over the family handyman business after his father (J.K. Simmons, "The Closer") has a heart attack. Also stars Edi Gathegi ("X-Men: First Class"), Leah Remini ("The King of Queens") and Danielle Nicolet ("The Starter Wife").
"How to Live with Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)": Family sitcom. 8 p.m. Tuesdays starting midseason.
A divorced single mom (Sarah Chalke, "Scrubs") moves back in with her parents (Elizabeth Perkins, "Weeds," and Brad Garrett, "Everybody Loves Raymond"), who are her complete opposites. Also stars Orlando Jones ("MADtv"), comedian Jon Dore and newcomer Rebecca Delgado Smith.
"Last Resort": Action drama from Shawn Ryan ("The Shield"). 8 p.m. Thursdays.
A nuclear submarine is crippled and goes on the run after refusing orders to fire on Pakistan. Declared enemies of the state, the crew ends up on an island where they'll attempt to clear their names and get home. Starring Andre Braugher ("Men of a Certain Age"), Scott Speedman ("Felicity"), Autumn Reeser ("No Ordinary Family") and Jessy Schram ("Falling Skies"). Robert Patrick ("Terminator 2") has a recurring role.
