The titular Emily (Mamie Gummer, "Off the Map") is a first-year surgical intern, who finds life at a Denver hospital is full of cliques and drama not all that different from high school. Among her co-workers is her med school crush, played by Justin Hartley (who was Green Arrow on "Smallville").

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The CW has the least amount of primetime real-estate on network TV. It only broadcasts two hours each night, instead of three, and it doesn't deal in sitcoms. Still, the network is supplementing its seven returning shows with five new ones next season. They are:
"Arrow": Superhero drama. 8 p.m. Wednesdays.
Stephen Amell ("Private Practice") stars as DC Comics' superhero, Green Arrow, in this dark tale of the billionaire playboy/crime fighter who protects his city using his mad archery skills and trick arrows. Although the Green Arrow character appeared on The CW's long-running "Smallville," there's no connection between that show and this one.
"Beauty and the Beast": Crime drama/romance. 9 p.m. Thursdays.
This procedural with a romantic twist is loosely based on the Linda Hamilton/Ron Perlman 1980s TV series of the same name. It pairs Catherine (Kristen Kreuk, "Smallville"), a New York homicide detective who was saved by a mysterious beast when her mother was murdered, with Vincent (New Zealand actor Jay Ryan), a mysterious doctor who happens to be said beast -- but only when he's angry.
"The Carrie Diaries":"Sex and the City" prequel. 9 p.m. Mondays, midseason. (Replacing "Gossip Girl," which will end this season.)
Based on the book of the same name by "SATC" scribe Candace Bushnell, it takes place in the early 1980s, during Carrie Bradshaw's senior year of high school in Manhattan. AnnaSophia Robb ("Soul Surfer") stars as Carrie, and Austin Butler ("Switched at Birth") plays her love interest.
"Cult": Crime drama. Midseason.
A journalist (Matt Davis, "Legally Blonde") and a popular TV show's production assistant (Jessica Lucas, "Cloverfield") team up to investigate the show's rabid fans, who might be re-creating the fictional show's crimes in real life. Alona Tal ("Supernatural") and Robert Knepper ("Prison Break") play the stars of the show-within-the-show.
