Alban Center auditions
The Alban Arts Center in St. Albans will hold auditions for Samuel Beckett's "Waiting for Godot" from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday and 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday. Parts are available for four men and one boy. Viva Las Vegas fundraiser
The choir of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 520 Kanawha Blvd. W., will host a Viva Las Vegas! fundraiser at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. The sanctuary will be transformed into a Las Vegas supper club for an evening that begins with a gourmet meal by Annette Zavareei, followed by a variety show and karaoke. Tickets are $20. Belly dance workshops
Samadhi Tribal Fusion Belly Dance Troupe presents two 50-minute belly dance workshops on Saturday at Bailey's H2O (formerly The Pour House), 4030 West Washington St. The first, "Basic Moves for Beginners," begins at 7 p.m. The second, "Uncage Your Inner Beast," starts at 8:10 p.m.
The first session includes a brief discussion on the history and types of belly dance plus a demonstration and basic instruction. The second focuses on embracing your attitude and showing it through your dance.

Capital High choreography showcase
The Capital High Dance Company will present a showcase of student choreography at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the school's performing arts center. Youth symphony concert
The West Virginia Youth Symphony will hold its annual Chamber Concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Kanawha United Presbyterian Church, 1009 Virginia St. E. It includes nine ensembles, ranging from duos to quintets, comprised of a total of 31 student musicians between the ages of 9 and 18. Trumpet player Adam Gillespie is the featured soloist.

Modern dance show
Pittsburgh-based dance company Attack Theatre brings its cutting-edge performance art to the Pocahontas County Opera House, at 7:30 p.m. March 16. The troupe combines modern dance, original live music, multimedia and interdisciplinary art forms.

Gospel sing tickets
Tickets are on sale now for the annual Capital City Gospel Sing, held March 23 at the Charleston Municipal Auditorium. On the bill are The McKameys, The Inspirations, Primitive Quartet, Mike Upright and the Good Shepherd Quartet.
Tickets are $20.50 for the artist circle, $19.50 for the main floor and $17.50 for the balcony. Groups of 20 or more receive two free tickets but must make their purchase at the Civic Center box office.

'Color Purple' cast
The Charleston Light Opera Guild has announced the cast for its production of "The Color Purple," which takes place May 4-5, 11-13 and 18-19 at the Civic Center Little Theater.
Janelle Williams and Reggie Parks star as Celie and Mister. The cast also includes Shayla Leftridge as Sofia, Michael Barnes as Harpo, Nakeila Killing as Shug Avery and Meshea L. Poore as Nettie.

WWE date change
The WWE Smackdown event scheduled for May 6 at the Charleston Civic Center has been canceled due to scheduling conflicts. Instead, the WWE Raw World Tour will stop at the Civic Center on July 27. The Smoky Mountains Songwriters Festival 2012 contest is now open for songwriters of all ages. The deadline to enter is April 30, with winners announced in July. There are five categories -- bluegrass, country, folk/pop/rock, gospel/inspirational and lyrics -- and 20 finalists will be selected in each one. They will perform at the festival, held Aug. 23-25 in Gatlinburg, Tenn., and winners will be named on the final night.
