CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The new episode of "Radio Free Charleston," titled "Calvin The Spiffy Spaceman Shirt," is online now at the PopCult blog (http://blogs.wvgazette.com/popcult). This week's show features music from Frenchy and the Punk, Amanda Brigette and The Nanker Phelge, plus an exclusive "outtake" from Felix Baumgartner's Space Dive and a look at the newest Olympic sport, spumling.
Frenchy and Punk recently appeared at The Empty Glass with Qiet. The goth/cabaret duo is promoting its new CD, "Hey, Hey, Cabaret," but is seen on the show this week with the song "The Magician and The Dancer" from its 2010 CD, "Happy Madness." The performance was recorded in summer 2011 at The Empty Glass.
Amanda Bridgette (pictured) makes her "RFC" debut with the contemporary jazz song "Fondly" in a music video directed by Emily Burdette and filmed at the state Capitol. Also seen in the video are Charleston jazz mainstays Bob Thompson, Ryan Kennedy and Tim Courts.
The Nanker Phelge perform their song, "Bankrobbers," recorded live at Shocka Con at the South Charleston Mound in October. The band performs at The Empty Glass Friday with Huntington's Deadbeats and Barkers and Cleveland's The Suede Brothers.
Before the music starts, the episode presents a blooper from Felix Baumgartner's record-breaking Oct. 14 Space Dive. It's a little known fact that this worldwide sensation was actually a well-rehearsed stunt and things didn't always go as planned.
