If you've always wanted to be cultured but never got around to it, you have one more chance at Thursday's ArtWalk, from 5 to 8 p.m. in 20 venues downtown.
Among the happenings, White Oak Photography, 807 Quarrier St., is having an ugly Christmas sweater party in addition to showing off new works by owner Michelle Krompecher; Taylor Books, 226 Capitol St., hosts book signings by West Virginia Poet Laureate Marc Harshman and author Colleen Anderson; Art Emporium, 823 Quarrier St., has Kathy Boland's "People and Parlors: An Afternoon at the Greenbrier," along with an artist talk at 6 p.m., and Delfine's Jewelry, 245 Capitol St., will have an assortment of chocolate diamonds on display.
Other venues are the Charleston Ballet, Chet Lowther Studio, Gallery Eleven, Good News Mountaineer Garage, House of Luxe, Ivor's Trunk, Mission Savvy, Modern By Design, The Purple Moon, Romano & Associates, Savvy Chic, Sky Lounge, Stray Dog Antiques, Studio 1031, Uncork & Create and Visions Day Spa. Though not officially a part of ArtWalk, Apartment Earth, 223 1/2 Hale St., will host an artistic event from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, as well. Amanda Jane, one half of the duo The Snake & The Pot, will dip her feet in paint and give an experimental dance performance on canvas while her partner, Duane Swanson, provides musical accompaniment. Todd Griffith's belly dance photography will be on display, too.
Dance like no one's watching
Well, of course people will be, but since the world's going to end shortly after you get your groove on, it's not like you have to worry about making a fool of yourself.

On Friday, you can do some line dancing with the Good Time Country Dancers or the Extreme Country Dance Club. The Charleston Cellar, 8 Capitol St., kicks things off with a special "Get Ready for the End of the World Third Eye Cabaret" from 7 to 10 p.m. Thursday. Performers include Sierra Ferrell, Greg McGowan of Time & Distance, The BrotherSisters, Steve Clever, Donnie Smith and others. There will be a variety of spoken word performances as well. At the Fairplain Yacht Club in Ripley, the Davisson Brothers Band ushers in the apocalypse with Party Like It's No To-Maya, starting at 9 p.m. Matt McGuire opens the show, and there's a high probability that DBB BFF Owen Schmitt will be there as well. CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- We're in the final stretch of our time on Earth, with the Mayan Apocalypse coming Friday and all. We don't know if our doom will come when the clock strikes midnight or as it counts down to 11:59 p.m., but why chance it and wait until the end? Get out there today and enjoy all that the area has to offer before it's too late.
Visit the Clay Center
If you've never been, this should be at the top of your list, and if you have been, you can go back and enjoy your favorite things one final time.
Have some hands-on educational fun in the Avampato Discovery Museum and the Mylan Explore-atory or watch a planetarium show or the giant screen film, "Shackleton's Antarctic Adventure," in the ElectricSky Theater.
And don't forget the art gallery! The new exhibit, "American Quilts in the Modern Age: 1870-1940," opens Friday, so in case we make it past midnight, you can head back to see that. In the meantime, the annual holiday exhibit, "Traditions: A Celebration of Heritage," is still up, and you can view selections from the "WV Contemporary Quilt Invitational."
You can enjoy all the museum has to offer until 7 p.m. Thursday (for just $4.50 from 5-7 p.m.), then see the Broadway in Charleston production of "Shrek the Musical" at 7:30 p.m., so you can experience the elegance of the Maier Foundation Performance Hall.
Pig out at local restaurants
Since you'll no longer have to worry about your weight or cholesterol, indulge in some of West Virginia's finest, if not necessarily healthiest, foods for your last meals.
At the top of your list, of course, should be Tudor's Biscuit World. You can't go to your demise without chowing down on one last Duke or Rocket (our favorites) or stuffing yourself with The Big Tator or a Super Breakfast.
