CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Episode 178 of "Radio Free Charleston" is online now at the PopCult blog at blogs.wvgazette.com/popcult. This is the fourth "Show Without Words" for "RFC," and it features music by Charleston's Doctor Curmudgeon and TriElement with special guests, Grounded, from Asheville, N.C. Frank Panucci provides the computer graphics throughout the episode.

The show begins with the cartoon "Too Many Amps For Doctor Curmudgeon," by Jason Myer, in honor of the progressive metal band's largely improvised nine-minute sonic piece featured in the show, which has Chuck Biel (guitar, loops and power tools) joined by Sean Sydnor (bass) and C.W. Riley (drums).

Grounded is showcased in an excerpt from "Its Everything Except What It Is! (Improv 01)." The duo of André Cholmondeley on guitar and Brett Spivey on bass makes ample use of looping, synths and samples. TriElement is a progressive metal trio comprised of Kenneth Booth, Dave Roberts and Joey Lafferty.

The music was recorded at The Empty Glass and The Blue Parrot.
