CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A few months ago, the No Pants Players held auditions to add to its ranks. Ryan Nolan -- not to be confused with the baseball legend Nolan Ryan -- made the cut.
He'll mark his third show with the improv troupe on Saturday, when it performs a benefit for the American Red Cross Oklahoma Disaster Relief Fund. All proceeds from the show will go to help those affected by the deadly May 20 tornado.
Q: So, first thing, who are you?
A: "I'm Ryan Nolan. I'm from Charleston, a recent graduate of High Point University, a graduate of GW class of 2009 and pretty much home for good.
"In college, we had an improv troupe. I got involved my junior year and spent the last two years doing comedy. I came home at Easter and saw a story in the paper about the No Pants Players holding auditions, the first in like eight years or something ridiculous like that.
"I figured I could go down and show them what I've got and maybe see if we were a good fit. I did and I loved it. I had a ton of fun, and they invited me to join."
Q: What brought you back to Charleston?
A: "School. My four years were up, and so it was time to find something to do. I graduated with a chemistry degree and thought I might be a good fit for pharmacy. I came home but needed a few more classes for the requirements, so I'm doing that over the next few months and then next year, I plan to apply to UC's pharmacy school."
