Chetty's everyday menu features burgers, salads, sandwiches, wraps and pub grub-type appetizers, mostly in the $5 to $9 range.
Diners at Smokey's on the Gorge fill their plates from a buffet that features beef, seafood or chicken, pork, lamb and game entrees that change daily, then sit outside on the overlook or behind generous-sized windows and soak up the view of the New River Gorge, river and bridge.
"The seafood was particularly good," Davis recalled. "We dined outside, and views of the gorge in the evening and the sunset were spectacular."
Kay Davis, Deborah's mother-in-law and matriarch of the family reunion, said the Smokey's staff prepared a range of dishes to appeal to diverse tastes. The $25 buffet included vegetables, salads and pastas designed to complement the entrees. Both women said the desserts were especially enticing.
The buffet is served family style, with servers replenishing platters with freshly prepared dishes, instead of serving larger quantities of food in chafing dishes, Poli said.
"We cook everything fresh all night, so it's always fresh when it's served. It remains flavorful and retains the right texture," Poli said.
