Café Cimino takes national award
The American Culinary Federation, the nation's premier organization of professional chefs, will honor Café Cimino Country Inn in Sutton with an Achievement of Excellence Award at the 2011 ACF National Convention held July 22 to 26 in Dallas, Texas.
Café Cimino Country Inn is one of 23 establishments nationwide to receive the award, which recognizes food service establishments that exemplify a commitment to excellence.
Stringing beans for Manna Meal
String green beans at Capitol Market's outdoor center court from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to benefit Manna Meal. The donated beans will be processed by Manna Meal volunteers and used to feed the less fortunate over the winter. Last year's event netted about 300 pounds of green beans.
Capitol Market is located at 800 Smith St. Manna Meal, 1105 Quarrier St., produces about 350 meals daily, seven days a week. Call 304-345-7121 or visit mannameal.com.
Ribfest
Eight barbecue teams from across the world will fire up their grills July 28 to 31 for Ribfest in South Charleston. They'll serve barbecue ribs, chicken with their special sauces, side dishes and desserts. Find them just west of the Montrose exit of Interstate 64 on MacCorkle Avenue. Call 304-746-5552. Teaching kids to cook
April Hamilton will teach Kids' Cooking Camp July 18-22 or Aug. 8-12 for children ages 8-12, at Village Chapel Presbyterian Church.

Bake a cover cake
Southern Living magazine challenges readers to bake their rendition of a white cake for the Holiday White Cake Cover Contest. The winning cake will grace the cover of the magazine's December issue and earn the winner $1,000. Two runner-up winners will receive $500. Their recipes will be featured in the issue.
