Inspired by a photograph in a recent Sunday Gazette-Mail article featuring watermelon, Jon Jett of Morgantown carved a melon into the shape of a turtle for his mother's birthday party. His creation is a nearly identical replica of a photograph featured in the newspaper article.

Café Cimino takes national award

The American Culinary Federation, the nation's premier organization of professional chefs, will honor Café Cimino Country Inn in Sutton with an Achievement of Excellence Award at the 2011 ACF National Convention held July 22 to 26 in Dallas, Texas.

Café Cimino Country Inn is one of 23 establishments nationwide to receive the award, which recognizes food service establishments that exemplify a commitment to excellence.

Stringing beans for Manna Meal

String green beans at Capitol Market's outdoor center court from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday to benefit Manna Meal. The donated beans will be processed by Manna Meal volunteers and used to feed the less fortunate over the winter. Last year's event netted about 300 pounds of green beans.

Ribfest

Eight barbecue teams from across the world will fire up their grills July 28 to 31 for Ribfest in South Charleston. They'll serve barbecue ribs, chicken with their special sauces, side dishes and desserts. Find them just west of the Montrose exit of Interstate 64 on MacCorkle Avenue. Call 304-746-5552.
