Spud fest

Nicholas County residents celebrate the local potato crop with the annual Potato Festival Sept. 8 to 10 in Summersville. Events include a potato decorating contest, tater tot and mashed potato eating contests, potato sack race, parade and pet pageant.

Country Roads Cook Off

Mike Perry, founder of the Heritage Farm Museum and Village in Huntington, seeks chefs for The Country Roads Cook Off on Oct. 1 at the farm. Guests will prepare traditional Appalachian recipe with a local main ingredient. Dishes must be prepared in cast iron cookware.

Entrants who prepare food for the wood fire division have two hours. Propane or butane stove division entries have one hour. Winners in each division will be awarded $150. The fan favorite winner receives $75.
