Big Brothers/Sisters needed

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Big Brothers Big Sisters is recruiting volunteers to serve as mentors in the program.

The nonprofit organization offers mentoring services to children ages 6 to 16 from single-parent homes in Kanawha and Putnam counties.

Volunteers would be matched with a child to do various activities at least twice a month with them, such as going to a park, library, swimming pool, movies or shopping.

The program also needs volunteers to be a mentor to a child during school hours at least 30 minutes a week at West Side Elementary or at its after-school program. Mentors could help the child with school work, eat lunch with them, play games and other activities.
