LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- The 14th Edition Collector Basket commemorating the 88th annual West Virginia State Fair is available for purchase. The "Medium Crock" basket is adorned with a commemorative brass tag, "Cottage" blue weave featuring a tan/blue fabric liner, plastic protector and iron handle. The basket measures 7 3/4 by 2 by 6 1/2 inches and is 100 percent custom-made in the United States. Purchasers may register their basket online for a lifetime warranty.
To order, contact the fair office at 304-645-1090, or visit the office during the Aug. 10-18, 2012, state fair. The baskets cost $50 and shipping is available to your address for an additional $7.
Limited quantities of the 2011 "Bowl" basket are still available.
The 2012 West Virginia State Fair, "Memories that grow ... year after year," was named a top 100 event by the American Bus Association.

Tamarack display
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tamarack is sponsoring a display of artists' works through Oct. 1 at the Robert C. Byrd U.S. Courthouse.
Gallery manager Zach Hartsog said the exhibit features pottery, photography, glass, painting, pastels and mixed media from 28 artists representing eight Mountain State counties.
Tamarack artists included in the show are John Coffey, Rob Cleland, Deborah Herndon, Rebecca Adkins, Kasey Alexandra Short, Gary Hartley, Randy Selbe, Carter Seaton, Angela Matthews, Leona Mackey, Linda Clifford, Earl Gray, Traci Higginbotham, Emily Roles, Jerry Birdsong, Nancy Johnson, Ed Rehbein, Jeannie Brenneman, Rose Dobbins, Laura Moul, Homaira Ahmed, Tsukasa Kambara, Jane Ann Long, Anne Tamea, Patricia Sutphin, George McWilliams, Leah Towler and Martha Osborn.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Tropical plants in the Huntington Museum of Art's C. Fred Edwards Conservatory are the subject of the upcoming Tuesday Tour for adults.
Plants that produce items used for food will be in the spotlight at 7 p.m. July 24. Admission for the conservatory tour is free.

Refreshments will be served and will feature the types of foods that can be found growing on tropical plants in the conservatory.
Huntington Museum offers guided tours for adults with Tuesday Tours on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Tuesday is the museum's free admission day.

Open studio
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Charleston Art Group will host an open studio from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Aug. 1 at the Habitat for Humanity's Homeowner Education and Community Center. Enter through the Habitat ReStore, 301 Piedmont Road.
Artists are encouraged to create art as they socialize with other artists. Participants must provide their own supplies. No oil paints please. No fees or experience necessary.
Paint colors
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Clay Center presents the latest Science Café session from 6 to 7 p.m. July 24 at Taylor Books, 226 Capitol St.
"Paint Colors," with Naomi Bays, chairwoman of Arts Council Kanawha Valley, and Amy McLaughlin, ReStore director, Habitat for Humanity, will lead a discussion about the psychology of paint color and the effects that colors have on people. Patrons will learn about the Habitat ReStore's latex paint recycling program and will have the opportunity to name a few recycled paint colors.
ReStore crafters wanted
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Habitat for Humanity ReStore's "Green Christmas: Reused, Recycled and Repurposed Craft Show" will take place Nov. 17 and 18 at 301 Piedmont Road.
Artists who are interested in selling recycled crafts can visit www.HFHKP.org for vendor and applications. Vendor applications are due Sept. 14.
