Old-time at Chief Logan
LOGAN, W.Va. -- Two free Labor Day weekend concerts will be performed Sept. 1 and 2 at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater in the Park at Chief Logan State Park.
Roger Bryant, the grandson of West Virginia folk legend Virginia Myrtle "Aunt Jennie" Wilson, will serve as emcee for the eighth annual Aunt Jennie Music Festival. He will open the 4 to 10 p.m. Sept. 1 concert, also featuring Cora and Fred Hairston, Glen Simpson, Jack and Dave Morris, Elaine Purkey, Jeff Ellis and the Daddy Rabbit Band.
For the concert from 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 2, performers include gospel groups The Seekers and the Stewart Family, The Earl of Elkview, Buddy Griffin with Retro and Smiling, Robert Shafer and the Pour House Band, The Samples Brothers and the Street Players.

Museum in the Park is a regional cultural center showcasing the best in West Virginia history and the arts. It features changing exhibits and displays of artwork and historical items from the collections of the West Virginia State Museum and the State Archives. One area of the museum is dedicated to local and regional history. It is operated and maintained by the West Virginia Division of Culture and History and is four miles north of Logan on W.Va. Route 10 at Chief Logan State Park. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Point Pleasant river fest
POINT PLEASANT, W.Va. -- Point Pleasant celebrates its rivers Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 with music, towboat tours, games and a sternwheel boat parade.
Bluegrass band Smith and Company will perform at 8 p.m. Aug. 31 at Point Pleasant Riverfront Park.
On Sept. 1, the free activities start at 9 a.m. with towboat tours and the pilothouse simulator in the River Museum. Children's games and contest start at noon, the sternwheel parade at 2 p.m. and a memorial service for deceased rivermen at 7 p.m. Gospel music group The Elsons will perform at 8:30 p.m.
Symphony plays in Beckley
BECKLEY, W.Va. -- The West Virginia Symphony Orchestra will perform at 7 p.m. Sept. 3 at the Beckley Area Foundation's 26th annual free Labor Day Pops Concert in the Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium, 400 Stanaford Road.
Born Old playing in Beverly
BEVERLY, W.Va. -- Musicians Doug Van Gundy and Paul Gartner will perform together as Born Old at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 at the Beverly Heritage Center.
The two, who have been playing traditional old-time music together since 1997, have taught at the Augusta Heritage Center and Allegheny Echoes workshops.
Tickets are $10 at the door. Proceeds from the event support the continuing arts program at the Beverly Heritage Center in Beverly, 6 miles south of Elkins on U.S. 219.

MARLINTON, W.Va. -- The Black Mountain Bluegrass Boys will return to the Pocahontas Opera House for a 7:30 p.m. Sept. 1 show.
The band organized in 1968, taking their name from Black Mountain in their native Pocahontas County. For five years the group worked a weekly radio show on WVAR, in Richwood. They also made regular appearances at local events and regional bluegrass festivals.

Poor Farm Fest
WILLIAMSBURG, W.Va. -- Poor Farm Fest will take place Sept. 6-9 at the Poor Farm Festival grounds in Williamsburg, on the Frankford-Williamsburg Road.
Kofi Baker will headline the Sept. 7 show, playing at 8 p.m. Devon Allman will headline the 8 p.m. Sept. 8 show with his blues-rock Honeytribe band.

Coal River model train show
CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. -- The Coal River Model Railroad Club and the town of Chapmanville are sponsoring a model train show Sept. 22 and 23 at the municipal center, 329 Tiger Way.
Hours for the free show are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 22 and 1 to 6 p.m. Sept. 23.
The show will feature model train items in all scales for sale or for trade. There will be about 40 tables of items at the show as well as operating layouts.

Battlefield preservation
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The eighth annual concert for the benefit of the Shepherdstown Battlefield Preservation Association Inc. will begin at 8 p.m. Sept. 21 at the Train Station at Shepherdstown.
Don Oehser and Todd Coyle will provide the entertainment. A $10 donation is requested at the door. There will be free food, adult beverages for a small donation and soft drinks. An auction with Civil War interest is planned.
In the past eight years, the association has saved 102 acres of the Civil War battlefield, including the historic Cement Mill property, and continues in its effort to save 300 acres in the core of the battlefield. For more information about the organization, visit www.battleofshepherdstown.org/.
Dancing at Stonewall Resort
WESTON, W.Va. -- A weekend of ballroom and Latin dances and dance instruction will take place Sept. 21-23 at Stonewall Resort near Weston.
WV Dance Inc., based in Charleston, is hosting two dances that will allow dancers to enjoy a variety of ballroom, swing, salsa and other Latin dances.
The September workshop weekend at Stonewall is open to dancers of all abilities.
The double-occupancy price for the weekend is $350 per couple and includes two nights' lodging, breakfast buffet for two on the mornings of Sept. 22 and 23, and all the dance lessons and dances for two people.
