Grammy winner in Marlinton
MARLINTON, W.Va. -- Four-time Grammy Award-winner David Holt and Grammy nominee Josh Goforth will perform folk and old-time mountain music and stories at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at the Pocahontas County Opera House, in Marlinton.
Between them, Holt and Goforth play guitar, banjo, fiddle, slide guitar, mandolin and a variety of rhythm instruments from hambone (body slapping) to spoons, stump-fiddle, rhythm bones, jaw harp -- and even a paper bag.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10. Children 17 and under are admitted free. The performances at the Opera House, 818 Third Ave., are informal and family-friendly. People with disabilities are encouraged to attend; special accommodations can be arranged upon request by calling 304-799-6645.
Culturefest at Pipestem
PIPESTEM, W.Va. -- Culturefest 2012, a festival of world music and art, takes place Sept. 6-9 at the Appalachian South Folklife Center, in Pipestem.
Bands will play a variety of music from folk, reggae, rock, blues, psychedelic, New Mexican space, gypsy Americana and more. The lineup also includes fire and light dance and dance and movement theater.
Tickets may be purchased online or at the gate. A full weekend pass is $30. Day prices are $7 for Sept. 6, $15 for Sept. 7 and 8, and $12 for Sept. 9. There are discounts for children. Visit www.culturefestwv.com.

LEWISBURG, W.Va. -- The Greenbrier Historical Society and North House Museum are again holding a Haunted History event with a candlelight ghost tour of the North House on Oct. 5.
