This week's ArtWalk

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Downtown Charleston ArtWalk, sponsored by Charleston Area Alliance, will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Sept. 20. Venues include:

  • The Greater Kanawha Valley Foundation will feature five artists: Deborah Herndon, photographer; Faye Johnson, jewelry designer; and Jennifer Bloomfield, photographer; Diana Pittis, potter; and Anna Nibert, painter.
  • Herndon will show 29 limited-edition pieces of work, including photographs of French and Spanish architectural details and urban landscape.

    Johnson studied under critically acclaimed designer and metalsmith Dan Haga as well as jewelry maker Kim St. Jean. Her work uses mixed media including clay, gemstones and various metals.

    Bloomfield, a registered nurse, wife and mother of two daughters, traveled for six years and returned to her home state of West Virginia, where her selection of favorite photos were taken.

    Pittis creates custom stoneware items and one-of-a-kind raku pots. Her shop, Pittis Pottery, is in Daniels.

    Nibert uses watercolors, acrylics and mixed media. Her inspirations come from her world travels, nature and culture, friends and family.

  • Charleston Ballet and Capitol Clay Arts present the "Dancing and Drinks" series. View the inside world of ballet dancers at work in a class and rehearsal setting for their upcoming October performances of "La Bayadere," with dance artwork pottery displays from Capitol Clay Arts and works of dance photography by Charleston photographer K.D. Lett.

  • House of Luxe will run an ArtWalk clearance in September of spring and summer jewelry and accessories. Collectable jewels by Marcia Moran, Miguel Ases, Amanda Sterrett and Mashka.

  • Woomer Nistendirk & Associates' featured artists this month are Linda Charles Stone, Emily Roles, Dawn Combs and John Maurer.
  • Stone is a recipient of grants from the West Virginia and National Endowments for the Arts. She has participated in solo, group and juried exhibitions and has taught group classes at The Greenbrier.

    Roles has painted in many media, but enjoys painting acrylic on paper. Her ArtWalk pieces are from a series of sheep paintings.

    Combs, of Charleston, has work ranging from photos of monarch butterflies to paintings of Canaan Valley. She paints in oil and acrylic and recently had a People's Choice winner in the May 2012 ArtWalk for "Ballet Rehearsal."

    Maurer, of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Bristol, Conn., exhibits in juried art festivals in the United States with oil and acrylic paintings depicting his travels.

  • Taylor Books Annex Gallery features Lauren Adams, of Fairmont. Adams has a bachelor of fine art degree in visual art from West Virginia University. She has shown her work at the Slingluff Gallery in Philadelphia and the Robert C. Byrd Federal Building in Charleston. She is a juried artist at Tamarack.
