W.Va. theaters to show Met Opera performances

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A new season of live and encore high-definition broadcasts of performances by New York's Metropolitan Opera is scheduled for movie theaters across the country.

In West Virginia, Cinemark at the Huntington Mall, in Barboursville, will show both live and encore performances; Great Escape, in Nitro, will show live performances only, and Hollywood Stadium 12, in Granville/Morgantown, will present live performances only. Interviews and set changes will be shown during intermissions.

Live performances will begin at 12:55 p.m. on Saturdays, with the exceptions of Jan. 5 and March 2 and 16, when they begin at noon.

Cinemark's encore broadcasts will show at 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Tickets at Cinemark are $22 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for children. At Great Escape, they're $20 for adults and $16 for seniors and children. At Hollywood Stadium, they're $24 for adults, $22 for seniors and $18 for children and students. A limited number of free passes will be available for certain showings.

The season lineup is as follows:

Oct. 27:"Otello," Verdi, 3 hours 27 minutes; encore Nov. 24

Nov. 10:"The Tempest," Adès, 3 hours; encore Nov. 28
