Beverly Lantern Tour

BEVERLY, W.Va. -- Costumed docents will guide visitors on a Lantern Tour of the historic town of Beverly beginning at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27.

Stories told on the tour will be drawn from known history as well as mysterious experiences in the community.

The Lantern Tour begins and ends at the Beverly Heritage Center and will last about 90 minutes, with light refreshments and discussion afterward. Tickets are $10 for adults, and $5 for center members and children under 12. Participants are encouraged to dress for the chill of the evening and to bring a flashlight.

The Beverly Heritage Center combines four historic buildings, offering museum exhibits, gift shop, archives and visitor information. It is in the center of Beverly, six miles south of Elkins on U.S. 219. Off-season hours are 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Monday, and other days and hours by appointment.

Bridge Day special

OAK HILL, W.Va. -- ACE Adventure Resort is offering a full-day raft trip on the lower New River that includes watching the BASE jumpers leap from the New River Gorge Bridge Oct. 20 during Bridge Day.

The price is $149 for two people, and includes a pig roast dinner at ACE following the raft trip. The Boatmen will perform a mix of blues, rock and newgrass.
