Holiday bazaar

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- New or slightly used items that can be regifted for a silent auction are being accepted now for the holiday bazaar Dec. 1 at Camp Virgil Tate.

Donated items may be dropped off at the WVU Extension Service Office, 4700 MacCorkle Ave. S.E. Vendor registrations are also being taken.

The bazaar will take place from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 1 at the camp, 1400 Camp Virgil Tate Road. Scheduled events include breakfast with Santa, gift and craft bazaar, child and pet photos with Santa, re-gift silent auction, raffles, farm animal exhibit, search-and-rescue dog demonstration and baked goods.

Halloween Party benefit

TEAYS VALLEY, W.Va. -- FireSide Grille, off Interstate 64 exit 39 (Teays Valley), is having a free Halloween Party, starting at 8 p.m. Oct. 27. The party will feature live music by the Lost Cause Band and a costume contest with prizes. All proceeds go to Basket of Hope charity.

Pet costume contest

HURRICANE, W.Va. -- New Hope Animal Rescue will hold its 16th annual Pet Halloween Costume Contest at 1 p.m. Oct. 28 at the large shelter at Valley Park in Hurricane.

There is a $3 entry fee for each of the seven categories. Trophies will be awarded. Photographs of pets and owners may be purchased. Local businesses have given raffle prizes for the fundraiser for New Hope, an all-volunteer, nonprofit, no-kill foster/rescue group.

Proceeds from this event will benefit New Hope's spay/neuter and medical programs as well as New Hope Animal Rescue's mission of building a no-kill animal shelter in the Putnam/Kanawha County area. For more information, call 304-562-0300.

Pottery for United Way

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Pottery Place and United Way of the River Cities have teamed up for a Marshall University football-themed fundraiser.

Pottery Place, in Huntington, will sell 50 special-edition ceramic footballs with "Go Herd 2012" on each. Each piece costs $85 with proceeds going to United Way.

Pottery Place will paint more ceramic footballs to be signed by team players and will be auctioned off at the end of the season.
