A market basket made by artisans in Ghana will be among the many items for sale at the Global Market Oct. 31 through Nov. 4 at First Presbyterian Church, 16 Leon Sullivan Way.

"In exchange for their fair trade items, the artisans are able to obtain basic needs such as food and clean water," says a news release from the church.

The market is open from noon to 4 p.m. Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 4. Credit cards cannot be accepted.

Christ Church Fall Fair

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Fall Fair at Christ Church United Methodist will take place from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Nov. 1 and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Nov. 2 at the church, Quarrier and Morris streets. The church is handicap-accessible.

Food, clothing, books, puzzles, games, jewelry, housewares, holiday decorations, antiques, collectibles, children's toys, sports equipment, furniture, art, rugs, appliances are among the many items for sale at bargain prices.

Anyone may drop off donations, beginning Oct. 28. Tax-deduction forms and consignment arrangements are available; however, the sale will not accept old computers, textbooks, exercise equipment, old suitcases, mattresses or encyclopedias or anything not in working condition.

Last year, more than $10,000 was raised to donate to local missions. For more information, call Jane Turner, president, United Methodist Women, at 304-345-9476.

Huntington's disease

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- A free Huntington's disease lunch-and-learn event will take place at 11 a.m. Nov. 10 at Saint Francis Hospital.

The Huntington's Disease Society of America will provide an educational presentation on the cognitive and behavioral effects of Huntington's disease, and Lundbeck will provide lunch.

Hansford fundraiser

ST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- The St. Albans Hansford Senior Center is putting on a comedy/variety show and bean dinner at 5 p.m. Nov. 2 at the center, 500 Washington St., St. Albans.

"Hansford Goes Country" was written, produced and will be performed by the seniors of the Hansford Center. St. Albans Mayor Dick Callaway will play comedian Red Skelton.

Tickets are $5. For reservations, call the center at 304-722-4621. All profits will be donated to the Hansford Center to support activities and programs.
