CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Several local choirs and musical groups will celebrate the season with concerts this weekend. Here are the performances scheduled:
West Virginia Symphony Chorus: Joined by the Marshall University Choral Union, the group will perform Marc-Antoine Charpentier's "Midnight Mass for Christmas" and Charles Theodore Pachelbel's "Magnificat" at 8 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier St.
They also perform at Huntington's Johnson Memorial United Methodist Church, 513 10th S., at 8 p.m. Thursday. A free-will offering will be taken at both. Call 304-586-4837 or visit the group's website here.
womanSong: Under the direction of Emily Capece, the chorale performs "Wrapped in Song" at 7:30 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 1221 Quarrier St. The program includes David Conte's "Christmas Intrada," Stephen Paulus' "Hallelu," Edward Henderson's "Star Song" and Mac Huf's arrangement of "I'll Be Home for Christmas." Guitarist Ryan Kennedy, drummer Brandon Willard and accompanist Janet Brightbill will join them.

Appalachian Children's Chorus: The first Ione Guthrie Yuletide Revelry begins at 3 p.m. at the Clay Center. All eight of the ACC choirs will be joined by the Martin Luther King Jr. Male Chorus, a recorder ensemble and a brass band for traditional holiday songs and Old World tunes. Tickets are $15.
