New 'Introvert' edition

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Laurie A. Helgoe, a clinical assistant professor at the West Virginia University School of Medicine, has published a second edition of her book "Introvert Power: Why Your Inner Life Is Your Hidden Strength."

In the second edition, psychologist (and introvert) Helgoe, teaches introverts how to gain energy and power through reflection and solitude, live fulfilling lives, and challenge the extrovert-centered biases in society.

According to a news release, "Introvert Power" is a blueprint to help introverts take full advantage of each day, while helping extroverts better understand the introverts in their lives.

Helgoe has written five books and a Psychology Today cover story, "Revenge of the Introverts." To learn more about the book, visit www.introvertpower.com.

Poet at literary event

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Charleston poet Crystal Good will headline a multimedia poetry event in celebration of Black History Month from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Feb. 22 in the Culture Center Theater.

The event is sponsored by the West Virginia Center for the Book.

A news release says Good writes "through the lens of her experiences" as an Appalachian black woman. The former model and West Virginia native has worn many hats: poet, mother of three sons, and the current director of brand experience for Mythology LLC, a Charleston marketing firm.

Poet Norman Jordan will join Good at the event. They will sell their books at a post-event reception in the West Virginia Library Commission's James D. Waggoner Reading Room.
