CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- "Living Monuments: The Courthouse," a book of the 55 county courthouses of West Virginia is now available for purchase. The book is a project of the West Virginia Association of Counties in collaboration with the West Virginia Courthouse Facilities Improvement Authority.
Produced by The Walkabout Co. of Wheeling, the full-color publication includes modern-day and historic pictures along with information of their history and architecture. Chapters on the general history of courthouses and county government and on the unique concerns for their renovation and rehabilitation are included.
The release of the book is timed to commemorate the role of courthouses and counties throughout the 150 years of West Virginia's statehood. The book will be available at Taylor Books and from the West Virginia Association of Counties as well as other outlets throughout the year.
Soldier/miner memoir
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- St. Martin's Press has published "Earned in Blood," a memoir by Thurman Miller, of Raleigh County. The book will be on sale in May.
Miller writes about his service as a gunnery sergeant in the Pacific Theater with the legendary K-3-5 of the First Marine Division, and about his 37 years as a West Virginia coal miner.

W.Va.'s love story
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Lewisburg native Nancy Herkness' book "Take Me Home" was chosen by Amazon.com to represent West Virginia in its list of 50 Great American Love Stories.
Herkness set her book in the fictional town of Sanctuary, W.Va. It tells the story of a big-city girl who returns to her country roots to make a fresh start, with the help of a wounded racehorse and an emotionally scarred but irresistible veterinarian.
"Take Me Home" was published by Amazon's imprint, Montlake Romance, in November.
