Train ride to D.C.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- The Cherry Blossom Express train tour from Huntington and Charleston to Washington, D.C., leaves March 24 and returns March 27.

Wild at Canaan

DAVIS, W.Va. -- Canaan Valley Resort State Park's Wild Thing Weekend is March 1 and 2 at the Tucker County resort near Davis.

Timberline ski race

DAVIS, W.Va. -- Participants of all ages and abilities may race in the 53rd annual West Virginia Governor's Cup Ski Race March 1-3 at Timberline Four Seasons Resort in Canaan Valley.

Race registration is from 6 to 9 p.m. March 1 and 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. March 2 at the resort lodge. The giant slalom race will be March 2, and the slalom race will be on March 3. Course inspection is at 8:30 a.m. and races begin at 9:30 a.m. each morning. Awards include a pair of skis to the fastest overall man and woman.

Tygart writing weekend

GRAFTON, W.Va. -- Charleston writer Colleen Anderson will lead a Woodland Writing Weekend March 1-3 at Tygart Lake State Park, near Grafton.

The writing workshop is for beginners and practiced writers ages 16 and older. Anderson is a published writer and performer and owns Mother Wit Writing and Design, a creative studio.
