Ashley Elizabeth King will receive the Reaching for the Stars Award, a new award that honors a former or current client of the clinic. King attended West Virginia State University, where she took part in many extracurricular activities, and now volunteers in the medical records office at Montgomery General Hospital.

Children's Therapy Clinic is a private, nonprofit organization that provides speech, occupational and physical therapy services and an autism socialization program to children with special needs who have inadequate insurance and/or income.

Hospice for faith leaders

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The Hospice Foundation will fund a faith-based workshop for religious leaders and lay leaders of all faiths at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 28 at HospiceCare, 1606 Kanawha Blvd. W.

Space is limited for the workshop "Help for the Hurting: How to Help Those Who Are Seriously Ill or Grieving." Lunch will be served. To register, call Carol Matheny at 304-941-1950.

Sojourner's style show

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Friends of Sojourner's will present its annual style show, luncheon and basket auction at 11:30 a.m. March 9 at the Charleston Woman's Club, 1600 Virginia St. E.

Opportunities to volunteer at the YWCA Sojourner's Shelter and Education Readiness Center include volunteer opportunities for tutoring from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Monday through Friday, data entry, daily meal preparation (breakfast and lunch), office support and children's after-school program.

Landau Murphy to sing

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tickets are for sale for an April 6 Charleston concert by Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. to benefit the Charleston Community Music Association and the Junior Achievement of West Virginia.

The winner of the television show "America's Got Talent" has new songs and surprises in his performance, according to his manager, Burke Allen: "But you'll still get to experience the same warm, fun, friendly Landau that won America's hearts and represents West Virginia so well."

Tickets for the 7 p.m. concert at the Charleston Municipal Auditorium are $25, $35 and $40. They may be purchased at the Charleston Civic Center box office, by calling 800-745-3000 or at www.ticketmaster.com.

Service nominations

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Nominations are being taken for the 2013 Governor's Service Awards that recognize outstanding individuals, families and organizations for extraordinary service and commitment to their communities.

Nomination forms are available through Volunteer West Virginia's website, www.volunteerwv.org, or by calling 800-984-3577. Nominations must be postmarked by April 12.

Recipients of the Governor's Service Awards will be recognized during a banquet at Faces of Leadership, the state volunteerism conference, Aug. 7 in Charleston.

Volunteer West Virginia, the state's Commission for National and Community Service, is a state agency dedicated to promoting the spirit of volunteerism by enabling West Virginians of all ages to strengthen their communities through service and volunteerism.

Earth Day fair

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- In celebration of Earth Day, Habitat ReStore is hosting "Mixed Greens: A Reused, Recycled and Repurposed Arts & Craft Show" on April 20 and 21 in the ReStore, 301 Piedmont Road.

Habitat for Humanity is recruiting vendors for the fair; applications are available at www.hfhkp.org or by calling Amy at 304-720-0141, ext. 22. The deadline for application is March 3. All proceeds from booth fees will go to Habitat for Humanity of Kanawha and Putnam counties.
