Dirty Girl Mud Run

A Dirty Girl Mud Run to benefit the National Breast Cancer Foundation is coming to Charleston April 6 at Coonskin Park. The first wave of runners will begin at 8 a.m., the last at 4 p.m.

The run is an untimed obstacle course for women of all ages and athletic abilities. Every one of the obstacles -- from the "Utopian Tubes" tunnel crawl to the "PMS" mud pit -- is optional. Forming teams is encouraged, as are crazy team uniforms. Music, food and drinks are part of the event.

Cancer survivors run for free. In 2012, Dirty Girl exceeded its minimum goal of $250,000 to the foundation in monetary and in-kind support. Its goal in 2013 is to deliver over $500,000 in support.

Scholarship dinner

ATHENS -- Philanthropist and businessman Jack Furst will speak at the Concord University Foundation's Greenbrier Dinner. The benefit to raise money for student scholarships will begin with a reception at 6 p.m. March 16 at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs.

Furst is also a member of the Boy Scouts of America's national executive board and serves as team leader for developing and programming the Summit Bechtel Family National Scout Reserve. The high-adventure base in the New River Gorge area will host the 2013 National Scout Jamboree.

Individual tickets to the dinner are $150. The Greenbrier resort is offering discounted room rates of $139 per night for dinner attendees.
