Library basket auction

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Dozens of baskets will be up for auction, including baskets with a sternwheeler cruise, a ghost tour and a stay at Mardi Gras Casino and Resort, at the annual fundraiser "A Tisket, A Tasket ... A Literary Basket" on April 20.

Tickets are on sale now for the Friends of the Library Foundation of Kanawha County event, which begins at 6 p.m. at NiSource Gas Transmission. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on dozens of baskets with literary themes.

The Friends are collecting baskets, items to be included in baskets or cash donations for the auction, which raised more than $31,000 for the library last year.

Ticket are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Additional tickets of $50 and $100 are available for those who want to provide more support for the library. Buy tickets at www.kanawhalibrary.org, or contact Lois Payne at 304-343-4646, ext. 283.

With money from last year, the foundation provided support for the summer reading program, sponsored children's authors at the West Virginia Book Festival and purchased Summer Library Club shirts for nearly 2,000 children who completed the reading program.

Ballet raffle

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Three prize packages loaded with gift items will be raffled March 29 on "Fox 11 Eyewitness News" as a fundraiser for the Charleston Ballet. There are 400 tickets available at $20 each.

All raffle proceeds assist with the Ballet's Partners and Pairs performances March 22 and 23. To buy a chance, call the ballet office at 304-342-6541 or order www.thecharlestonballet.com.

Gift items in each package include:

Package 1: $500 cash, a weekend getaway at Charleston Marriott Town Center, a Chop House winter dinner package, a Vision's Day Spa gift certificate, a Calvin Broyles Jewelers gift certificate, two tickets to both a Charleston Ballet performance and a Symphony Broadway Pops concert, and a Yarid's gift certificate.

Package 2: $300 cash, a romantic getaway at Charleston Embassy Suites, a Tidewater Grill gift certificate, Petit Jewelers jewelry, one unlimited monthly pass from The Folded Leaf, gift certificates from Geraniums, Cornucopia, Charleston Cut Flowers and a Neu Aesthetic Skin Care Clinic.

Package 3: $200 cash, an overnight stay and dinner at Mardi Gras Casino & Resort, gift certificates from Delfine's Jewelers, Charlie, Eggplant, Oliver Fuels and Oil, The Palm Salon and tickets to West Virginia Power baseball and a Charleston Ballet performance.

Verizon gives to YWCA

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Verizon Wireless donated $2,500 to the YWCA for its domestic violence prevention programs. The gift was made Tuesday at the Verizon Wireless store at the Charleston Town Center Mall.

Food pantry request
