Big winners

Carver Career & Technical Center's ProStart team placed second out of 14 teams at the West Virginia Hospitality and Education Training Hospitality Cup competition recently in Morgantown. Under the guidance of Carver's Chef Thomas Grant and Chef Jeremy Still, executive chef at Edgewood Country Club, the team received a perfect score on its dessert course.

Vegan event

A "Meatout" Vegan Potluck will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. March 21 at Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 520 Kanawha Blvd. Guests should bring a vegan dish and the recipe to share. Amy Williams, Chris Higgins, Hannah Dare Stone and Jennifer Miller will speak. Casey Litz and Marium Bria will provide live music.

Food Pantry request

The Covenant House Food Pantry, located on the fourth floor of First Presbyterian Church, is in immediate need of any kind of canned meats, canned milk and canned fruit. Email Robin Snyder at robinsnyder...@frontier.com with questions.
