CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- March brings many consignment sales for great causes to Charleston. "The Snazzy Rags and Such" sale to support the CAMC David Lee Cancer Center's wig shop and Christ Church United Methodist's "Twice Blessed" sale are always hits for bargain shoppers.
This year there's a new sale in town to add to bargain shoppers' version of "March Madness."
Charleston marketer, model and fashionista Carrie Bowe got the idea to clean out her closet last month and sell new and gently used clothing to support her August mission trip to Kenya with River Ridge Church.
As she gathered the many items, she thought some of her friends might be willing to do the same. And that is how "Gypsy's Closet" was born. "I thought maybe a few close friends would help, but the outpouring of community support has been humbling," Bowe said. "The donations are overwhelming, but I'm beyond appreciative."
She's picked up donations from Charleston to Huntington and items have been delivered through friends and family members from around the state and as far south as North Carolina.
Though she first planned to conduct the sale from her own home, the amount of donations became so large that she needed a bigger space accessible to the public. After asking for help on Facebook, her social network came to her rescue again. A friend who works with Appalachian Power Park offered the community clubhouse for the consignment sale.
The sale will offer women's accessories and clothes for ladies, juniors, youths, baby and maternity. There are some items for men as well, including some high-end designer fashions such as Armani and Versace.

The sale takes place on March 23 at the Appalachian Power Park Clubhouse and start with a preview sale for Facebook event attendees; the sale will be open to the general public from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will continue, if the items last, from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday. Any items not sold will be listed on Poshmark, an online sales app, on Bowe's account, @carriebowe.
