CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- The history of West Virginia's state symbols is the subject on a sesquicentennial program April 27 at the West Virginia Culture Center.
The event will feature artifacts from the State Museum collection, videos and documentaries in the media room and hands-on projects. Limited-edition commemorative coins will be distributed. The tours, first conducted in 1955, have blossomed into a major annual attraction. Docents from garden clubs throughout the region guide guests through these homes and gardens, describing the architecture, furnishings and plantings, as well as genealogical information and historical events that have taken place on the grounds or within the walls.
