CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Greek to the east
A cafe lunch-only version of Adelphia Sports Bar & Grille recently opened in Boulevard Tower, 1018 Kanawha Blvd. E.
Eli Stanley, nephew of Adelphia owner Dino Stanley, manages the petite restaurant, which is tucked into the office building's bottom floor. The menu is a sandwich, gyro, Greek salad, quesadilla, wings, burger and wrap version of the Capitol Street restaurant's menu.
"We wanted to offer a lunch-time menu with delivery service and make it more convenient for people who work around here," said Stanley. The larger restaurant doesn't offer delivery service.
Although Adelphia Limited Grille is only four or five blocks east of Capitol Street, there are no other dining options along the surrounding blocks on the boulevard.
The restaurant seats about 20 indoors and 20 outdoors in an adjoining courtyard. Stanley puts out canopies to shade the courtyard on sunny days.
The Greek-influenced menu features the popular gyros and Greek salads, served with Yia Yia's (meaning "grandmother") tzatziki sauce or her Greek dressing made from the Stanley matriarch's recipe.
Quesadillas also sell well. The Mexican version includes chicken, caramelized onions, sweet peppers, cheese and house-made salsa, while a Greek version includes gyro meat and all the trimmings -- feta, red onion, tomato, cucumber and tzatziki sauce.
Lunch prices range between $6 and $10, with items priced to match the larger restaurant's menu. Hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. Delivery available for orders over $25. Call 304-343-5552.Smooth success
Smooth Ambler Spirits, a distillery in Maxwellton, won four medals at the San Francisco Spirits Festival in March, one for each of its entries.
Greenbrier Gin earned bronze medal, Barrel Aged Gin and Old Scout Bourbon each took a silver medal, and Old Scout Rye was awarded a gold.
Distillers and importers submitted 1,407 spirits from 63 countries into 85 different classifications in the competition, which was a record number of entries.
"This is the second time we've entered the San Francisco Spirits Competition, one of the most significant competitions in the country, and it is awesome to have our hard work recognized, for all of our entries, and to be ranked among the greatest spirits producers in the world," owner and head distiller John Little said in a press release.
The Mountaineer Montessori School will serve Starbucks coffee, home-baked goods and fresh lemonade to East End Yard Sale shoppers on Saturday, May11. The Montessori will set up at 1557 Virginia St. E., for the sale, which runs from 8 a.m. until noon.
Proceeds benefit the school's scholarship fund.
Wings for a cause
Quaker Steak & Lube will hold a Dine to Donate on May 13 to benefit The Relay for Life. A percentage of that day's sales will be donated to the cause.
