HUNTINGTON, W.Va. -- Featuring carefully chosen photographs, the Huntington Museum of Art's "Selected Reality: Photographs of the 1970s" exhibit opened June 8 and runs through Oct. 13.
The pieces in the exhibit are from a time when there was great experimentation with photography, and trends and styles that were dominant in sculpture and painting, such as conceptualism, minimalism, abstraction and magic realism, were explored.
During the 1970s, photography was prevalent in galleries and museums. Photographers worked to develop the field through all the various stages, such as conception, composition and processing, to create art in a way it had not previously been done.
HMOA's permanent collection contains more than 90 photographs, which range from early daguerreotype of the 1850s to 21st-century digital images.
