CASS, W.Va. -- Cass Scenic Railroad in Pocahontas County is offering four train rides on nights of a new moon and a full moon.
The new-moon runs are July 9 and Aug. 6. Full-moon runs are Aug. 20 and Sept. 19.
For the new moon runs, the train departs Whittaker Station at 8 p.m. Astronomers from the National Radio Astronomy Observatory will have telescopes at Whittaker Station and will help sight in stars and planets. There is a 100-passenger limit.
The full-moon runs will travel to Bald Knob, the second-highest natural elevation in West Virginia. The train departs the Cass depot at 8 p.m. and returns to the depot by 12:30 a.m. Reservations are required.
Tickets for all excursions are $36 for adults, $26 for children ages 5-12 and $16 for children under 5.

PARKERSBURG, W.Va. -- Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park offers dinner cruises on the Island Belle sternwheeler from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and Sept. 6, departing from Point Park, where a music concert will follow each cruise.
Also, "Island Frolic" cruises take place July 27 and Aug. 24 on the sternwheeler to Blennerhassett Island for an evening picnic. Departure is at 6:30 p.m.; return is three hours later. On the island, in addition to a picnic-style meal, there will be a narrated wagon ride tour and a guided tour of the Blennerhassett Mansion.

ROMNEY, W.Va. -- The historic Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad offers three-hour train rides along the South Branch of the Potomac River, through "the trough," a narrow mountain valley where bald eagles nest.
Trips depart at 1 p.m. each Saturday through September from Wappocomo station on W.Va. 28, one mile north of Romney. There are Sunday departures July 28 and Sept. 1 and 29. Special eight-hour round-trips depart Romney at 10 a.m. for Petersburg.
Fall foliage trips run Oct. 3-27, departing at 1 p.m. daily, except for Oct. 12, 13, 19 and 20, when trains depart at 10 a.m. and 2:30 p.m.
First-class and coach tickets are available for all trips. Coach class purchasers may buy sandwiches, snacks and drinks on board or bring a small picnic cooler (no alcohol). First-class tickets includes riding in a dining car with a full meal served during the trip.
