Jewelry designer wins grant
CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Christine Keller, a jewelry designer based in Buckhannon, was recently awarded her second grant from the West Virginia Division of Culture and History, West Virginia Commission on the Arts. The grant will be used to outfit her studio with several essential tools, including a new torch used in silversmithing.
Keller continues to expand her company, Chrizart Creations (www.chrizart.com), supplying jewelry to more than 50 galleries in California, Florida, Maine, West Virginia and the Midwest.
She also participates at Tamarack, in Beckley. In July, she was recognized with an award for being the second-highest producer in her department. She designs jewelry ranging from $12 aluminum rings to $500 sterling silver pendants and cuffs.
Beginning watercolor class
ST. ALBANS, W.Va. -- A watercolor class for beginners begins Sept. 5 at the Hansford Center in St. Albans. The class will meet from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursdays. All materials are furnished.
Selecting and using proper materials, composition, basic drawing, color theory, critiques and watercolor painting techniques are subjects that will be covered in the five-week course. Tuition is $90.
Teacher Brenda Beatty earned an art degree from West Virginia University. She is a member of West Virginia Allied Artists, West Virginia Art & Craft Guild and the West Virginia Watercolor Society.
